Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Nutgraf

What is Nutgraf exactly?

Nutgraf is both an article summarizer and a smart bookmark library – like your own personal knowledge base.

How does Nutgraf save me time?

If you do a lot of reading online – say, if you like to keep up with the news about a fast-moving topic, or if you're just generally an information junkie (like us) – Nutgraf saves you time by summarizing articles so you can decide whether to save them, read them thoroughly, or just move on with your life.

Which platforms does it support?

Nutgraf is available anywhere you can use a browser. We also have browser extensions for Microsoft Edge and for Google Chrome. We've also made it available via a Developer API so you can build Nutgraf into your own applications and agents! Want to use Nutgraf somewhere else? Click the "Feedback" button and let us know!

What does it offer for developers?

Nutgraf provides a simple API with full documentation and examples to integrate summarization and knowledge base building into your apps.

Is it free?

Right now we're in the early beta phase, and access is free. We'll also be extending free usage for our early adopters, as a thank you for being with us while we're still building our premium features.

What's behind the name "Nutgraf"?

In journalism, a "nut graf" is the paragraph that explains why a story matters – the "nut" of the story.

How accurate and concise are the AI-generated summaries?

You can choose the relative length of summaries, as well as the tone and whether the summaries are constructed as paragraphs or as short bullets. As far as how accurate… we've found that the summaries are pretty good, but if a particular fact is important, you should definitely read the source article in full to confirm it. Nutgraf is intended to give the "gist" of the piece so you know whether to spend the time to do that reading, and it's very good at that!

Can Nutgraf read paywalled content?

We believe very strongly in respecting creator rights; Nutgraf currently skips paywalled content. In the near future we'll be adding the ability to summarize paywalled content from a browser in which you're logged into the paywalled site.

Can Nutgraf read any site?

There are a few sites (MSN news, notably) that Nutgraf can't access; we're working on a fix.

Can I search across my summarized content later?

Yes! Our goal is to provide the ability to organize and search your links and summaries. Please use the "Feedback" link to let us know if your favorite organizational scheme isn't supported.

Is my data private and secure?

We have no intention of selling or providing your data to anyone. We collect only information we need to provide services to you. Please see our Privacy Policy for more information.

Are there limitations to how many summaries I can create for free?

At the moment you can create 1000 summaries per month, but that's an arbitrary number. If you need more, let us know! As we get closer to leaving beta, we'll revise that up or down. And even when we begin charging for additional summaries, we'll provide the option to use Nutgraf for free by providing your own API key from OpenAI or Anthropic.

Is there a roadmap for new features? What's coming next?

There is, and we'll be talking more about it in the days to come. If there's something you'd like to see, please click the Feedback link and let us know!
